This task gives a list of specific details (a particular example, a reason for something, a comparison between two things, a reference to a date or a study) and asks which paragraph (A, B, C…) contains each one. Because the questions do not necessarily follow the order of the passage and a single paragraph can be the answer to more than one question, candidates cannot rely on the sequential-order shortcut that works for many other Reading tasks, and must instead scan each paragraph for its distinguishing content.

The most efficient approach is to underline the key concept in each question (what exactly must be found. An example, not just a topic) before scanning, since these questions are often testing a specific supporting detail rather than a paragraph’s main idea, which is the opposite emphasis from Matching Headings. Re-reading the whole passage from the start is rarely necessary; targeted scanning for the distinguishing noun or concept in each question is faster and more reliable.
